Review

Is there a spelling mistake or not? "Sturm" is the german word for storm, the tracklist says Stürm. If you say something like "it storms" in german, then it would be "es stürmt". But factically the word Stürm doesnt exist. So you all can cool down, this is an official new FLA release, including the spelling mistake, everything is alright.

This is BANG! part 2.
If there was any complaint about the Civilization album, then it was either "I want my Corndog back" or "its too mellow". Vanished was one of those mellow, laid back tracks on the album, but the last thing to think of when listening to these 5 tracks is the album version of Vanished. This is beats all the way. Various types of heavy grooves, burning basslines, spacey synths, and even a few guitars. Plus, I have the impression that this stuff is much more layered than the songs on the album. By the way: Take the Civilization album, and see it as the Civilization album and take the Maniacal EP and the Vanished EP and see those two as the Anti-Civilization album. So after listening to "Anti", the B-Side of the Maniacal single, my favourite FLA track ever, for about 500 times in the past 6 months, I'm very pleased to have more of the FLA that I adore. Some people requested a Noise Unit revival... there is no Noise Unit revival, but let me just tell you my thought: There are two FLA's now. Here's part 2 for you!

01 Vanished (Illusions of Grandeur)
Left from the album version are the vocals and that piano melody. Everything else is different. Not a bit of the 'Massive Attack' vibe is left. A brigade of interchanging four on the floor beat structures, a 'no limit' style slap bass on top of the other deep bassline, and a synth programming that says "Futurepop sucks, but FLA are good (even if they use futurepop synths)". The chorus vocals are going through a vocoder with a new melody.. I wouldnt say it sounds like Madonna this time:) This is totally a dancefloor track now. Very very energetic. And 7.30 minutes of that.

02 Stürm
And go to the heart of that. MEGALO MEGALOMANIAC. EGOCENTRIC ANIMAL, THERES NO TURNING BACK. This, ladies and gentlemen, is the heaviest FLA track since the Hard Wired days. A totally formulaic FLA track, but this time it's fun all the way. Plus, we get the next volatile spleen lyric as a bonus: We're gonna drive that mother, into the back of your spine. The track took me a few listens to get sympathetic, but sure, it's the angriest track in a long time, really powerful. Another four on the floor burner, with a "Schweineorgel" on top of the groove, eh I mean the stomping. And the break at 2.30 minutes is totally evil. DIG. DIG DEEP. Then we get our guitars. Totally low, scratching twenty meters below the surface. Rhys is now the Metal master. And this track is almost as evil as corndog.

03 Disseminate
Tiesto rulez? The least spectacular of those 3 B-Sides. A light Conjure Oneish spacey vibe, maybe "Tears From The Moon" in the FLA version or maybe not. Yet another load of 4onthefloor bassdrums, plus a garage drumloop on top. The melodies, a number of light sphere sounds and synths, give it the atmosphere of a space flight. I found this to be the perfect soundtrack for the Venus transit 2 weeks ago. The lightest track on the EP, some people might see this as pure futurepop. I rather see the stars passing by, as the light pulse travels thru time and emptiness. A message from somewhere, sent out to the universe. Liftoff.

04 Uncivilized
These Islands collapsing. No four on the floor this time, a rocky 4/4 take. One might call this a remix of the album's titletrack, but just like with Vanished, everything is different apart from that one vocal line and those news broadcast or whatever samples. While this is another heavy load of music, it has something new: 3D. Even on a stereo, the track totally surrounds you. Towards the end all the sounds are falling into pieces and appear everywhere in the room, better tie yourself to the floor, and don't do any hallucinogenic drugs when you listen to this track... I mean do it, and tell us what star system you travelled to afterwards. The most psychedelic FLA track ever.

05 Vanished (Re-Entry)
Hmm. Not a bad track, but not a necessary one. This is 90% the same as the "Illusions" remix, the main difference is that the chorus vocals aren't vocoded, in other words, the melody line goes the same as on the album version. Just like with the 'Re-Percussion' remix on the Maniacal EP, this is rather more of the same plus minus a little bit of sounds here and there. Lets say there's even one more track on it. The fade out at the end is nice.

So have fun with that one. I think my review said that I do so huh:)
BANG!
