Review

Here comes a review of the new Noise Unit album, "Drill". First I would like to say that I haven't had much time to listen to it, but here goes.

Its once again an instrumental album, but now with a much harder sound, lots of weird samples and wonderful bleeps and bloops. The rhythms borrow a lot from todays dance scene, and are very well implemented.

Song by song:

1 The Drain 6:43
Starts with strange noises (as almost all the songs do), and then a sampled bluessinger comes in. Then the very electronic bass (the same sound as the first song on "Hardwired") kicks in and the song starts. Hard rhythms and a severely processed guitar, together with soft ambient sounds make this a good start for the album

2 Dominator 5:35
Very electronic sounding, with almost a housebeat at the start. The guitar is also used rather heavy in this song. Weird song.

3 Prostitute 6:31
Some strange, very processed sounds make up the intro, continuing into a good song, with cool bass sounds and actually a chorus as well.

4 Miracle 6:42
Masterpiece. Starts as hip-hop from hell, changes drum pattern into another hip-hop sounding beat, and then after about 2 min the guitars break loose, and makes it a very heavy tune indeed. Then, suddenly, the music transforms into almost body music, before settling down to a very heavy construction of armageddon guitars and beats, with very nice harmonics on top. A strange voice in the background also makes its first apperance.

5 Eye burner 7:10
Moody intro with lot of strings, and then, hey presto, Noise Unit goes jungle! Breakbeats ahoy! But fret not as this is posssibly my favourite on the album, with seriusly wonderful synth sounds and nice melodies.

6 Sloth 6:44
Average, heavy on the rythmic stuff, FLA-bass, nice harmonies and little bubbly sounds.

7 Neuron 5:25
Slow almost Deleriumesque beat, also with a kind of ambient feel to it.

8 Other world 5:99 (rather strange timestamp for this one)
Uses a kind of fat, FLA-ish bass, with very much blooping around with good melodies. Uses a drumloop from one of the songs on the second Intermix album. Good.

9 Penance (sorry, no time)
Lots and lots of weird samples, perhaps a little too "difficult" for me, but maybe it'll grow on me. The same strange voice as in "Miracle" joins in after a couple of minutes.

All in all, a very electronic album, with a lot of rhythm elements and with a lot of variation (within the songs as well). It's much more harsh sounding than the last one. Go get it. (The cover is nice, too)
