Rhys Fulber > Biography

Rhys Fulber was born in Vancouver, Canada on October 10th, 1970. His father was born in Germany and his mother's family had immigrated from Great britain Although Rhys spent most of his young adult life in Canada, he also lived in Viersen, Germany when he was very young.

Sometime in 1986, while shopping in an alternative clothing store, he became friends with one of the employees, who had just left his former band Skinny Puppy. "He was playing cool underground tapes that I liked. Not many people then were into that kind of music (Portion Control, Test Dept)".

Rhys' first involvements in Front Line Assembly (FLA) were 1 song on "Total Terror" and then 3 songs on "The Initial Command" ("The State", "Ausgang zum himmel"). On the Delerium debut "Faces Forms and Illusions" he also contributed to 3 of the songs. Around the same time, he started the band "Will" together with Chris Peterson and John McRae, which would last from 1987-1992. After "just being around" at the FLA camp and lending Bill and Michael some of his equipment here and there, he joined the band on their first tour for "Gashed Senses and Crossfire" in 1989, and then joined Bill as full FLA and Delerium member when Michael Balch left. So from Delerium's "Morpheus" and FLA's "Caustic Grip" on, he was involved in all the FLA, Delerium, and Sideprojects activities that took place until 1997. The most productive and highest regarded phase in the history of the band began, spawning genre-defining albums like FLA's "Tactical Neural Implant" and "Hard Wired", and Delerium's "Semantic Spaces" and the mega-seller "Karma".

During this time, his interest in producing and remixing other artists grew and resulted in records like Fear Factory's "Demanufacture". During 1997 these 'producer' occupations were one of the reasons that lead into his naturally developing split from what were ultimately Bill Leeb's music projects. Rhys wanted to go out to see the world and try something new.

So, from 1997 on he took care of an even larger number of productions and remixes, including the "Josh Groban" debut album, two film scores, more Fear Factory music, and began working on his solo project "Conjure One". He travelled through out the world, lived in Amsterdam, London, made trips to the near- and far-eastern countries of this Earth, and finally settled down in Los Angeles around 2002 to promptly re-join Bill Leeb to work on some new Delerium songs.

But next was the launch of the self-titled Conjure One debut album, which turned out to be a fresh and progressive take on what we knew and learned to love under the name Delerium. After producing Paradise Lost's "Symbol Of Life" album, he worked on Delerium's "Chimera" as one of Bill's main partners in 2003, and then the two brought FLA back to Civilization in 2004. His next trip will be the forthcoming second Conjure One album.
